Matrices whose entries are polynomials with nonnegative coefficients are used from some time ago to represent nonnegative matrices. Their use has special interest in the problem of determining the minimum size polynomial matrix presenting a prescribed nonzero spectrum. In this paper the authors construct polynomial matrices of small size presenting nonnegative matrices with certain spectral and algebraic constraints. They show how certain geometrical ideas interact with polynomial matrices.
