If R is a noetherian ring and A is an R-algebra, then A is said to be a pseudopolynomial R-algebra in n variables if \(A\otimes R_{{\mathfrak p}}/{\mathfrak p}R_{{\mathfrak p}}\simeq (R_{{\mathfrak p}}/{\mathfrak p}R_{{\mathfrak p}})[X_ 1,...,X_ n]\) for all \({\mathfrak p}\in Spec(R)\). - The paper discusses the structure of a polynomial ring over a pseudopolynomial R- algebra. One of the main results of the paper states that a finitely generated flat pseudopolynomial algebra in n variables over a regular local ring R is stably isomorphic to \(R[X_ 1,...,X_ n]\) (two R- algebras A and B are stably isomorphic if there exists an integer m such that \(A[X_ 1,...,X_ m]\simeq B[X_ 1,...,X_ m])\).
