A new effective scheme for the numerical treatment of Lamé functions of the first and second kind is considered. This scheme gives high accuracy combined with safe error estimates and uses interval analytic methods. As an illustration, a conjecture on the sum of eigenvalues of two adjoint integral operators is considered, one of which is the double-layer potential integral operator for the case that the underlying surface is a triaxial ellipsoid. The best estimates which are known at present, are obtained.
