The authors study the following problem: given \(n\) scattered data points, find \(n\) variable multiquadric shape-parameters, or \(\mathbb{R}^ 2\)-values. This problem is nonlinear. They optimize these parameters minimizing the root mean-square errors. Several numerical examples are given.
