Let \(Q\) be a quiver, and let \(I\) be an admissible ideal in the path algebra \(KQ\), where \(K\) is a field. The author proves that, given any finite dimensional split basic algebra \(\Lambda=KQ/I\), there is a finite list of affine algebraic varieties whose points naturally correspond to the isomorphism types of uniserial left \(\Lambda\)-modules. He also constructs natural surjections that map these varieties onto families of uniserial modules with fixed composition series. Then the fibres of these maps are investigated and an algorithm which resolves the isomorphism problem for uniserial modules is described. In a certain sense the algorithm is simpler than one of \textit{K. Bongartz} [Arch. Math. 53, No. 3, 256-258 (1989; Zbl 0705.13007)]. In conclusion it is proved that any affine algebraic variety can be realized as a variety of uniserial modules over a suitable finite dimensional algebra.
