Let \(g\) be a complex semisimple Lie algebra, \(U_\xi\) its quantized hyperalgebra. The finite-dimensional irreducible \(U_\xi\)-modules (or maximal left ideals of finite codimension of \(U_\xi)\) are known, i.e., generators for the maximal left ideals are known, when \(\xi\) is not a root unity or when \(\xi^2 =1\). In this article, the author obtains them when \(\xi\) is a root of unity of order at least three. Basically, he does this using the Frobenius kernel \(u_\xi\) of \(U_\xi\), and its triangular decomposition as a \(Q(\xi)\)-algebra. He determines the irreducible \(u_\xi\)-modules, which are restrictions of irreducible \(U_\xi\)-modules. Then the appropriate tensor product theorem gives the description for \(U_\xi\). Similar results hold for the unquantized hyperalgebra over an algebraically closed field of prime characteristic.
