A Fréchet space \(E\) with an increasing fundamental sequence \((\|\cdot\|)_n\) of seminorms is asymptotically normable (a.n.) if \[ \exists n_0 \forall n \exists m \forall\varepsilon>0 \exists M>0 \forall x\in E:\|x\|_n\leq M\|x\|_{n_0}+ \varepsilon\|x\|_m. \] Any a.n. Fréchet space is countably normed and hence, in particular, has a continuous norm. \(E\) is a.n. if and only it it satisfies property \((\text{DN})_\varphi\) of \textit{D. Vogt} [North-Holland Math. Stud. 90, 349-381 (1984; Zbl 0585.46060)] for some unbounded increasing function \(\varphi: (0,\infty)\to (0,\infty)\). (DN) is \((\text{DN})_\varphi\) for \(\varphi(r)= r\). In the first section of the present article, the author constructs an example of an a.n. (FS)-space \(M\) and a Banach space \(Z\) such that \(M\widehat\otimes_\pi Z\) does not even have a continuous norm. The main ingredients of this counterexample are a construction of Moscatelli type and a suitable use of the lack of the approximation property (a.p.). In particular, following Hogbe-Nlend's construction, the author gives an example of a countably normed (FS)-space without the a.p. In Section 2, it is proved that for two a.n. Köthe echelon spaces \(\lambda^p(A)\) and \(\lambda^q(B)\), \(\lambda^p(A)\widehat\otimes_\pi \lambda^q(B)\) is again a.n., and that the complete projective tensor product has property (DN) whenever both echelon spaces have (DN). Finally, it is also shown that \(E\widehat\otimes_\pi F\) satisfies (DN) if both \(E\) and \(F\) are Fréchet spaces of type 2 with property (DN). The proof of the last result makes use of a deep theorem due to \textit{O. Kouba} [J. Funct. Anal. 96, No. 1, 38-61 (1991; Zbl 0753.46037)].
