This paper deals with positive solutions to nonautonomous competitive Kolmogorov systems of reaction-diffusion equations. The main goal of the work consists of establishing a sufficient condition for permanence, expressed in terms of inequalities connecting the time-averaging of intrinsic growth rates, interaction coefficients, migration rates and principal eigenvalues. These results are obtained by using some estimates previously established by \textit{R. R. Vance} and \textit{E. A. Coddington} [J. Math. Biol. 27, No. 5, 491--506 (1989; Zbl 0716.92016)]. The paper ends with a section in which it is informally explained that the condition established in the paper can be considered as an invasibility condition.
