The authors consider the locally convex space \(C_{u,\lambda}(X)\) of continuous real-valued functions on a Tychonov space \(X\) endowed with the topology of uniform convergence on all \(A\in \lambda\) where \(\lambda\) is a directed system of subsets \(A\) of \(X\) such that every continuous function is bounded on \(A\) (and \(\bigcup \lambda=X\) -- the authors' claim that this last property characterizes the Hausdorffness is not correct). They investigate some locally convex properties related to compactness. For example, they prove that \(C_{u,\lambda}(X)\) is nuclear or Schwartz if and only if \(\lambda\) is the system of all finite subsets. On the other hand, \(C_{u,\lambda}(X)\) is hardly ever (semi-)reflexive. Much deeper results, e.g., about barrelledness of such spaces, had been proved already in the 1970s, e.g., in [\textit{J. Schmets}, Espaces de fonctions continues. Berlin-Heidelberg-New York: Springer-Verlag (1976; Zbl 0334.46022)].
