The paper deals with the discontinuous Galerkin finite element approximation of optimal control problem governed by convection-diffusion equations. Convergence and stability properties of the proposed approach are studied. Discontinuous Galerkin norm is defined and it is proved that the state variable and the adjoint variable are approximated with respect to this norm. The authors propose to analyze an interior penalty method for the discretization of the optimal control problem a derive a priori error bounds in the discontinuous Galerkin norm. The a priori error estimates are based on the pseudo-orthogonality of bilinear maps defined in the paper. Finally a posteriori error estimate is discussed.
