Let in the linear differential expression of the form \(\ell(y)= -y''+ a_1(x) y'+ a_2(x)y\) the coefficients \(a_i\in C[0, 1]\), \(i= 1,2\). The author studies the corresponding linear operator \(L\) with non-local boundary conditions containing the integrals \(\int^1_0\varphi_i(x) y(x) dx\), \(i= 1,2\), \(\varphi_i(x)\in C[0, 1]\). Under certain hypotheses on \(\varphi_i\) expressed in terms of the asymptotics in \(\rho\) \((\rho^2= \lambda)\) of the above integrals, the behaviour of the resolvent of \(L\) in \(L_p\) space for any \(p\geq 1\) is obtained in the form \[ \|(L+\lambda I)^{-1}\|= (c+ R(\lambda))|\lambda|^{- r}. \] Here, for any \(\varepsilon> 0\), \(M(\varepsilon)> 0\), \(\{\lambda\in\mathbb{C}: |\lambda|\geq M(\varepsilon),|\text{arg }\lambda|< \pi-\varepsilon\}\), \(c\neq 0\), \(R(\lambda)\to 0\) as \(\lambda\to\infty\) and the constant \(r\) is computed in terms of the ones occurring in the mentioned hypotheses. For \(p= 2\), in the above estimate \(r= 3/4\), which is a result of \textit{E. I. Galakhov} and \textit{A. L. Skubachevskij} [Differ. Equations 33, No. 1, 24-31 (1997; Zbl 0908.34066)] and of the later author and \textit{G. M. Steblov} [Sov. Math., Dokl. 44, No. 3, 870-875 (1992; Zbl 0791.34060)]. An application to an abstract Cauchy problem in the Banach space \(L_p\) is also given.
