For the Euler equations governing the gas flow surrounding a solid ball with mass \(M\) and frictional damping in \(n\) dimensions, two results are obtained: 1) Regular solutions cannot be global if the initial density has compact support. 2) In the case of spherical symmetry some sufficient conditions are given for the global existence of smooth solutions of the corresponding initial-boundary value problem. The study is a generalization of \textit{L. Ying, T. Yang} and \textit{C. J. Zhu} [Commun. Partial Differ. Equations 22, No. 7-8, 1361-1387 (1997; Zbl 0888.35088)] to the case when \(M\) does not vanish.
