In an earlier paper [\textit{P.S. Ozsváth} and \textit{Z. Szabó}, Adv. Math. 186, 58--116 (2004; Zbl 1062.57019)], the authors introduced a collection of graded abelian groups \(\widehat{HFK}\) associated to knots in a three-manifold. This paper computes these groups for the Kinoshita-Terasaka knots [\textit{S. Kinoshita} and \textit{H. Terasaka}, Osaka Math. J. 9, 131-153 (1957; Zbl 0080.17001)] and their Conway mutants. These results show that \(\widehat{HFK}\) contains more information than the Alexander polynomial and the signature of these knots, and they also illustrate the fact that \(\widehat{HFK}\) detects mutation. The paper also gives the calculation of \(\widehat{HFK}\) for pretzel knots, and for knots with \(n\leq 9\) crossings. This yields obstructions to certain Seifert fibered surgeries on the knots considered.
