    Suppose \(H\) is a hermitian form on \({\mathbb C}^n \times {\mathbb C}^n\) with values in \({\mathbb R}^k\). The corresponding quadric \(Q_{H}\) is defined to be \(\{ (z,w)\in {\mathbb C}^n \times {\mathbb C}^k : \Im w = H(z,z) \}\). If \(H\) is nondegenerate, every local CR-automorphism of \(Q_{H}\) extends to a rational map of \({\mathbb C}^{n+k}\). Thus \(\Aut(Q_{H})\) is a finite dimensional Lie group in this setting with Lie algebra \({\mathfrak g}_{H}\). In the approach of \textit{N. Tanaka} [J. Math. Soc. Japan 19, 215-254 (1967; Zbl 0165.56002)] a certain prolongation \(\widetilde{{\mathfrak g}_{H}}\) of a subalgebra of \({\mathfrak g}_{H}\) determined by its graded Lie algebra structure is defined. The purpose of the present paper is to show that \({\mathfrak g}_{H}\) and \(\widetilde{{\mathfrak g}_{H}}\) are isomorphic.
