This paper concerns some essential results in the polynomial approximation theory with respect to multiplicative systems in the weighted spaces \(L^p_w [0, 1)\) when the weight \(w\) belongs to the Muckenhoupt class \(A_p\) with \(1 < p <\infty\). More precisely, the author obtains the following results: {\parindent=6mm \begin{itemize}\item[1)] Some analogs of Jackson's theorem on the best approximation of a differential function (cf. Theorems 1 and 3). \item[2)] A Bernstein-type inequality (see Theorem 2). \item[3)] Some direct and inverse approximation theorems in \(L^p_w [0, 1)\) in terms of certain \(K\)-functional (cf. Theorem 4). \item[4)] A best approximation estimate in the weighted norm in terms of the Fourier coefficients when the sequence of Fourier coefficients is a general monotone sequence (cf. Theorem 5). \item[5)] A criterion of Hardy-Littlewood-type to establish the belonging of a function to \(L^p_w [0, 1)\) when \(w\) is a power weight and the sequence of Fourier coefficients of the function is a general monotone sequence (see Theorem 6). \end{itemize}}
