The ratio of plastic components of the incremental width and thickness strains, arising from an increment in uniaxial tensile stress, is an important parameter in sheet metal forming, giving a measure of the resistance to the thinning and hence showing the ability of the material to deep drawing. This paper provides a method which predicts this ratio for a metal sheet assuming that the rolling history is given. Quadratic and cubic yield functions and the theory of tensor functions are used for the description of the dependence of the ratio on the processing history.
