The basic analogue of the binomial theorem has been employed by various workers to deduce a number of interesting results in the theory of elliptic functions and q-hypergeometric series. A multiple series extension of the q-binomial theorem was recently obtained by \textit{S. C. Milne} [Adv. Math. 57, 34-70 (1985; Zbl 0586.33011)]. This formula is used in the present paper to derive a multi-dimensional generalization of Ramanujan's \(_ 1\Psi_ 1\) summation theorem. Corresponding generalizations of Jacobi's triple product identity and the Macdonald identities also follow.
