In this survey the authors sketch some results of Kurt Mahler (1903--1988). The emphasis is on Mahler's papers in Diophantine approximation, fields of power series, fractional parts of powers of a rational number greater than \(1\), algebraic number theory, \(p\)-adic analysis, etc. In some cases the current status of a problem investigated by Mahler is also described.
