Let \(X,B\) be \(n\times m\) complex matrices. \textit{W. Lei} and \textit{B. Cain} [Linear Algebra Appl. 236, 137-146 (1996; Zbl 0851.15004)] derived necessary and sufficient conditions that the equation \(AX=B\) has a real non-negative definite, or a real positive definite, solution \(A\). The author corrects their results at one point and provides simpler proofs. His proof in the non-negative definite case is constructive in the sense that it provides one explicit solution.
