The subject is homotopy uniqueness of certain 2-compact groups. A 2-compact group is a loop space \(X\) \((X\simeq \Omega BX)\) such that \(X\) is \(\mathbb{F}_2\)-finite and \(BX\) is 2-complete (in the sense of Bousfield-Kan.) Here are some of the author's results for \(X\) a 2-complete space. (i) If \(X\) has the mod 2 type of \(BSO(4)\), then \(X\) is homotopy equivalent to the 2-completion of \(BSO(4)\). (ii) If \(X\) has the mod 2 type of \(BG_2\), then \(X\) is homotopy equivalent to \(BG_2\). \((G_2\) is the exceptional Lie group of rank two.) (iii) If \(X\) is a connected 2-compact group such that it and \(G_2\) have isomorphic Weyl representation and the mod 2 cohomologies of \(BX\) and \(BG_2\) are isomorphic over the Steenrod algebra, then \(BX\) is homotopy equivalent to \(BG_2\) up to 2-completion.
