This paper is closely related to another one [see \textit{S. McAdam}, J. Algebra 196, No. 1, 158-170 (1997; see above)]. Both examine the following question. Let \(R\) be a Noetherian domain, and consider \(\text{Spec} (R)\) as a partially ordered set. Let \(V\) be a finite subset of \(\text{Spec} (R)\). Which partially ordered sets \(W\) arise as the set of all primes lying over \(V\) in some finitely generated integral extension domain of \(R\)? In the first paper, the problem is solved for certain chains \(V= \{0=P_0 \subset P_1\subset \cdots \subset P_n\}\). If appropriate conditions hold on the \(P_i\), then the possible finite \(W\)'s are those posets that have a unique minimal element, and in which every maximal saturated chain has length \(n\). This generalises an unpublished result of C. Rotthaus and S. Wiegand. In the second paper, a chain \(V\) as above is said to lift easily if the \(W\)'s defined in the theorem of the first paper can all be realised as in the statement of the problem. It is shown that \(V\) lifts easily in many (but not all) situations, so that it is speculated that lifting easily is the normal state of affairs.
