For \(\Gamma\) a finitely generated Kleinian group, some elements in the neighbourhood of the identity homomorphism in \(Hom(\Gamma,\text{Möb})\) can be obtained by means of quasi-conformal deformations or Schwarzian differential equations. For b-groups with an invariant component, the extent of these special homomorphisms in a neighbourhood of the identity has been determined by \textit{F. Gardiner} and \textit{I. Kra} [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 21, 1037-1059 (1972; Zbl 0227.20020)]. Here the situation is extended to a general finitely generated group. Specifically, let \(\Delta\) be an invariant union of components of \(\Gamma\) such that \(\Delta/\Gamma\) is a Riemann surface, so giving rise to the group G. Each component of \(\Delta\) gives rise to a homomorphism \(\sigma \in Hom_ p(G,\text{Möb})\) whose elements \(\chi\) have the property that \(tr^ 2(\chi(\gamma))=4\) for each \(\gamma\) with a lift to a simple closed curve round a puncture in \(\Delta/\Gamma\). The author proves that \(Hom_ p(G,\text{Möb})\) is a complex manifold in a neighbourhood of \(\sigma\) by obtaining locally a biholomorphic map with a suitable product space of holomorphic \(\Gamma\)-forms and Beltrami differentials. As a consequence he deduces criteria for quasi-stability of function groups.
