Let \(V(\mathbb{R})\) be a \(4n\)-dimensional real vector space with scalar product \(g\) and equipped with a quaternionic structure, that is, \((V(\mathbb{R}),g)\) is endowed with a pair \((J,K)\) of isometries such that \(JK = -KJ\) and \(J^ 2 = K^ 2 = -id_ V\). Further, let \({\mathcal R}(V)\) denote the vector space of algebraic curvature tensors equipped with the natural scalar product induced by \(g\). In this paper the author describes the decomposition of \({\mathcal R}(V)\) under the action of \(\text{Sp}(n)\) into irreducible subspaces (the details of the proofs will appear elsewhere) and relates it with the well-known decomposition under the action of the orthogonal group. The fact that \(\text{Sp}(n)\) appears as the holonomy group of hyperkähler manifolds relates this work with the study of this special quaternionic geometry and that of supersymmetry.
