The author gives a proof of the following theorem. Let \(M\) be a compact locally symmetric space whose universal cover is \(\text{SL}(3,\mathbb R)/ \text{SO}(3)\). Then the simplicial volume of \(M\) is strictly positive. It is shown also that an earlier proof of this theorem, given by R. P. Savage in 1982, is not correct. For all other compact locally symmetric spaces of non-positive curvature the positiveness of the simplicial volume was proven by L.-F. Lafont and B. Schmidt.
