The following theorem is proved: Let V be a finite vector space, and let M be a set of nonsingular linear transformations in V with the properties: \(I.\quad \alpha \in M\Rightarrow \alpha^{-1}\in M.\) \(II.\quad M\cup \{0\}\) is closed under addition. \(III.\quad 1\in M.\) then \(M\cup \{0\}\) is a field. This theorem was proved by \textit{G. Glauberman} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 25, 253-287 (1972; Zbl 0242.20018), p. 270] in the case that the underlying field has characteristic different from 2.
