The paper generalizes Serre's theorem which states that every finite dimensional complex semisimple Lie algebra can be constructed from a Cartan matrix by using generators and relations. The authors define a quasi-Cartan matrix, \(A\), as one which is symmetrizable with diagonal elements equal to 2 and, if also, there is an integer diagonal matrix, \(D\), such that \(DA\) is positive definite, then \(A\) is called positive definite. For each positive definite quasi-Cartan matrix, there is an associated bigraph and then a complex Lie algebra Z-equivalency of the matrices is defined and the main theorem is shown: \(A\) and \(B\) are equivalent if and only if their associated Lie algebras are isomorphic.
