Let \(H\) be the ring of quaternions with integer coefficients and let \(n\) be an integer. Set \(T(n) = \left({H\atop H} {nH\atop H}\right)\). The following test problem was posed by the author [in Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 105, No. 1, 67-72 (1989; Zbl 0668.16011)]. Is \(T(3)\) isomorphic to a full \((2,2)\)-matrix ring over some ring \(W\), and if so what is \(W\)? The author answers the above question by showing that \(T(N)\) is isomorphic to a full \((2,2)\)-matrix over some ring if and only if \(n\) is odd. This raises further questions, such as: When \(W\) exists, is it unique? This time the answer is ``No''.
