Extensions of some classical ideas of complex geometry to the more general settings of symplectic manifolds are discussed. A notion of topological Lefschetz pencil on a symplectic manifold \((M, \omega)\) is given. It is shown that any \((M,\omega)\) with \([ \omega ]\) integral for large \(k\) admits a Lefschetz pencil in which the fibres are symplectic subvarietes, representing the Poincaré dual of \(k[ \omega ]\).
