Let \(\Lambda\) be the von Mangoldt function, and \(\mathcal{R}(x)=\sum_{n\leq x}\Lambda(n)-x\). Although, assuming the Riemann Hypothesis we have \(\mathcal{R}(x)\ll\sqrt{x}\log^2x\), one may improve on this estimation by assuming in addition conjectures related to the pair correlation for zeros of the Riemann zeta-function. The authors of the present paper follow this direction by using a correlation function due to \textit{D. R. Heath-Brown} [Acta Arith. 41, 85--99 (1982; Zbl 0414.10044)], to obtain approximations \(\mathcal{R}(x)\ll\sqrt{x}\log^a x\) with \(0<a\leq 3/2\), and \(\mathcal{R}(x)\ll A^2\sqrt{x}(\log\log x)^2\). The constants \(a\) and \(A\) are related to the above mentioned correlation conjectures.
