The purpose of this paper is to give a very short way of computation and discussion of the Riemann-Hilbert operator \[ A^ m(G,{\mathbb{C}})\ni f\to Re({\bar \lambda}f)_{| \partial G}\in H^{m-1/2}(\partial G,{\mathbb{R}}) \] where G is an s-fold connected domain or a Riemann surface (oriented) of genus 1 having a finite number s of boundary components. The Cauchy integral formula leads to a characterisation of the Sobolev space \(A^ m(G,{\mathbb{C}})\) (of all holomorphic functions of class \(H^ m\) on G) as a manifold isomorphic to a subspace of finite codimension of \(A^ m(B,C^ s)\), B the unit ball. Using this chart and a Sobolev embedding the Fredholm theory can be developed and we can give a complete functional analytic description.
