The authors consider the problem (*) - \(\Delta u=f(u)\) in \(\Omega\), under zero Dirichlet conditions \((u>0)\) and \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain in \(R^ N\), \(N>2\). It is then assumed that the growth behavior of f is such that (*) has no solution, such as e.g. \(f(s)=s^ p\), \(p\geq (N+2)/(N-2)\), and \(\Omega\) is starshaped. They then consider an approximating problem where f(s) is replaced by some \(\hat f(s,\epsilon)\), such that \(\hat f(s,0)=f(s)\) and (*) has a solution for \(\hat f.\) A number of results are then proved which discuss the asymptotic behavior as \(\epsilon\to 0\).
