Linear recurrence equations of second and higher orders, which satisfy determinants associated with some tridiagonal and constant-diagonal matrices, are presented. New families of polynomials associated with these determinants are defined. The relationship of these polynomials to Chebyshev polynomials for the first and second kind is investigated. A number of new identities for Chebyshev polynomials and some linear modification of these polynomials, and many new trigonometric identities and identities for Fibonacci and Lucas numbers are given.
