According to the authors a spacetime (M,g) is called a) causally pseudoconvex iff for each compact set K in M there is a compact set K' such that each causal geodesic segment \(\gamma\) : [a,b]\(\to M\) with \(\gamma\) (a), \(\gamma\) (b)\(\in K\) satisfies \(\gamma\) [a,b]\(\subset K'\), and b) causally disprisoning iff for each inextendible causal geodesic \(\gamma\) : (a,b)\(\to M\) and \(t_ 0\in (a,b)\), both of the sets \(\gamma (a,t_ 0]\) and \(\gamma [t_ 0,b)\) fail to have compact closure. Global hyperbolicity implies these properties. Here it is shown that the behaviour of causal geodesics with respect to convergence and existence of connecting causal geodesics is the same as in globally hyperbolic spacetimes, if both conditions are satisfied by (M,g). Furthermore the simultaneous validity of both conditions is C 1- stable and implies in a C 1-stable manner the global solvability (in the generalized sense) of \(\square u=f\) (\(\square\) denoting the d'Alembertian).
