This article gives a well written survey on recent results about curvilinear \(3\)-webs on a surface. Besides results obtained by the authors the solution of the Blaschke problem, given in general form by \textit{V. V. Goldberg} and \textit{V. V. Lychagin} [J. Geom. Anal. 16, No.~1, 69--115 (2006; Zbl 1104.53011)] is included in section 6 of the paper under review. The authors follow the classical approach of \textit{W. Blaschke}'s book [Geometrie der Waben. Basel, Stuttgart: Birkhäuser Verlag (1955; Zbl 0068.36501)] using the web curvature and its covariant derivatives. They compute many useful identities which are the basis of the results presented. In Section 2, (Theorem 1) the authors give their characterisation of \(3\)-webs for which one of the covariant derivatives vanishes [\textit{A. A. Utkin} and \textit{A. M. Shelekhov}, in Webs and quasigroups, 1998--1999. Tver: Tver State University. 76--85 (1999; Zbl 0928.53008)]. Section 3 contains a description of 3-webs determined by ordinary linear differential equations [\textit{A. A. Utkin} and \textit{A. M. Shelekhov}, Izv. Vyssh. Uchebn. Zaved., Mat. 2001, No.~11, 54--57 (2001; Zbl 1103.53301)]. In Section 4, (Theorem 3) the same problem is treated for the Riccati equation [\textit{A. A. Utkin} and \textit{A. M. Shelekhov}, Izv. Vyssh. Uchebn. Zaved., Mat. 2004, No.~11, 87--90 (2004)]. The description of 3-webs admitting a one-parameter family of diffeomorphisms is the content of Section 5 [\textit{A. M. Shelekhov}, Izv. Vyssh. Uchebn. Zaved., Mat. 2005, No.~5, 68--70 (2005; Zbl 1116.53014)].
