Let \(T : G\times X\rightarrow X\) be a uniformly continuous action of a locally compact semigroup \(G\) on a metric space \((X, d)\). Let \(\Gamma= (N_0, N_1, \dots , N_n, \dots)\) be a system of compact subsets of the acting semigroup \(G\) satisfying \(N_k N_m \subseteq N_{k+m}\) for every \(k,m \in \mathbb{Z}_+\). The quantity \[ \widetilde{h}(T,\Gamma)=\sup \left\{\lim_{\epsilon \rightarrow 0} \underset{n\rightarrow \infty }{\lim \sup }\frac{1}{n}\log s_n(\epsilon ,K,T):K\subseteq X,\, K\ \text{compact}\right\}\] is called the receptive topological entropy of \(T\) with respect to \(\Gamma\), where \(s_n(\epsilon ,K,T)\) is the maximum size of an \((n, \epsilon)\)-separated set of \(K\). Here the authors investigate the receptive metric entropy \(\widetilde{h}_{\mu}(T,\Gamma )\) of a measure-preserving action \(T : G\times X\rightarrow X\) of a discrete semigroup \(G\) on a probability space \((X,\mu)\) with respect to a regular system \((N_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}\) in \(G\). They compare \(\widetilde{h}_{\mu}(T, \Gamma)\) with the classical metric entropy \(h_{\mu}(T)\). The authors present further properties coming from the restriction of actions and products of actions. Several different versions of the receptive topological entropy are proposed. The authors generalize a well-known notion given by \textit{R. Bowen} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 184, 125--136 (1974; Zbl 0274.54030)] defining a receptive-like entropy \(b(T, \Gamma)\) for a continuous action. They study the relation of the receptive topological entropy with the receptive metric entropy by virtue of a variational principle. It is conjectured that the variational principle holds for the receptive topological entropy and the receptive metric entropy. A receptive local metric entropy \(\underline{h}^{\mathrm{loc}}_{\mu} (T,\Gamma)\) is introduced. For a \(T\)-invariant Borel probability measure \(\mu\) on \(X\), the authors prove that \(\underline{h}_{\mu }^{\mathrm{loc}}(T,\Gamma) \leq \widetilde{h}_{\mu}(T,\Gamma)\). Finally, some conjectures are listed.
