The authors present an algorithm to compute step by step a piecewise linear approximation for the one-dimensional unstable manifold of a saddle point of a planar map. The distance between two points is automatically adapted to the curvature of the unstable manifold. Convergence and accuracy is only superficially discussed. Instead some concrete examples are given to demonstrate the practical performance of the algorithm. Finally, an extension of the algorithm to two-dimensional unstable manifolds is presented and tested at a quasi-periodically forced Hénon map.
