The authors investigate equivalence properties between convolution filtering, continuous wavelet transforms, and solution of evolution equations, which are essential for signal and image processing. They first describe such relations for linear multiscale smoothing and differential equations involving the corresponding pseudo-differential operators. These properties are extended to the non-linear case, where the equations are replaced by evolution inclusions corresponding to the implicit iteration schemes. Some results of computational experiments with comparison of smoothing effects are also presented.
