The paper is concerned with a method for solving time dependent partial differential equations written in divergence form which combines a cell averaging Hermitian collocation with a finite difference approximation to the equidistribution principle. The method is tested against one-dimensional problems described by Burgers' equation, a flame propagation model and the Euler equations. It is stated that more accurate results for moderate numbers of mesh points are obtained as compared with those for fixed meshes.
