The Ore conjecture [\textit{Ø. Ore}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 2, 307-314 (1951; Zbl 0043.02402)] states that every element of every finite non-Abelian simple group is a commutator. Building on previous work of various authors, \textit{M. W. Liebeck, E. O'Brien, A. Shalev}, and the reviewer completed the proof of this conjecture [in J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 12, No. 4, 939-1008 (2010; Zbl 1205.20011)]. The second author of the paper under review has recently proposed a refinement of the Ore conjecture, stating that every element of every finite non-Abelian simple group is a commutator of elements of coprime orders, and verified that it holds for alternating groups. In this paper, the authors establish this refinement for simple groups \(\mathrm{PSL}(2,q)\), \(q>3\).
