For \(g\geq 0\), a (2+1)-dimensional TQFT determines a projective representation \((\rho_g, V_g)\) of the mapping class group \(M_g\) of a closed oriented surface of genus \(g\). Let \(r\) be a prime number \(\geq 5\) and \(g>1\), then the authors prove that the image of the mapping class group of a closed oriented surface of genus \(g\) is dense in the projective representation given by the \(SO(3)\) Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev theory at an \(r\)th root of unity.
