The Cauchy problem for parallel null vector fields on Lorentzian manifolds is considered. A classification of Riemannian spin manifolds admitting an imaginary $W$-Killing spinor satisfying some algebraic conditions is given. A similar classification of Lorentzian manifolds admitting a parallel null spinor field is also given. The relation to Lorentzian holonomy of these classification results is studied. Some applications of the obtained results are presented.
