Let \(Z := I \times Y\) denote a cylinder where \(I:=(0,R)\) and \(Y\) is a compact manifold without boundary. Then \(\Delta :=D^2 + \Delta_Y\) is called a ``Laplace-type operator'' if \(D\) is the derivative in \(I\) and \(\Delta_Y\) is a selfadjoint realization of the Laplacian on \(Y\). Using the fact that the eigenvalue problem may be separated in the eigenspaces of \(\Delta_Y\), the authors derive properties of the zeta-function \(\zeta(s):=\sum_{k} \lambda_k^{-s}\). Here \(\lambda_k\) denote the eigenvalues of \(\Delta\) subject to various boundary value prescriptions on \(\partial I\). In the same geometry, a similar analysis is done for the Dirac operator.
