The notion of an almost factorizable inverse semigroup was introduced by \textit{M. V. Lawson} [Glasg. Math. J. 36, No. 1, 97-111 (1994; Zbl 0820.20070)]. This notion and some basic results were generalized by \textit{M. Hartmann} [Semigroup Forum 74, No. 1, 106-124 (2007; Zbl 1144.20042)] for orthodox semigroups. The authors continue these investigations. An orthodox semigroup \(S\) is called \(E\)-unitary if the kernel of the least group congruence of \(S\) is the band \(E(S)\) of all idempotents of \(S\). The structure of every \(E\)-unitary almost factorizable orthodox semigroup is described by means of bands and groups. It is shown that such a semigroup \(S\) need not be isomorphic to a semidirect product of a band by a group, and a necessary and sufficient condition is given for \(S\) to be isomorphic to such a semidirect product.
