    A self-contained, systematic and analytical procedure is presented to generate orthogonal eigenfunctions for thin circular cylindrical shell vibrations under arbitrary boundary conditions. The authors use the computational power of software packages MATLAB and MAPLE V. For the analysis, the equations of motion derived by \textit{M. C. Junger} and \textit{D. Feit} [Sound, structures, and their interation. Cambridge, Mass. London: The M.I.T. (1972; Zbl 0327.76037)] and the Love approach have been utilized. The authors consider a wide variety of boundary conditions, including elastic and rigid ring stiffners on the boundaries. An excellent agreement is obtained between computed natural frequencies and the frequencies known from experimental results. Detailed parametric studies are made.
