The paper is concerned with the problem of determination of the source term \(f(x)\) in the time-fractional diffusion initial boundary value problem \(D_t^{\alpha}u=(a(x)u_x)_x+c(x)u+p(t)f(x)\), \(u(0,t)=k_0(t)\), \(u(1,t)=k_1(t)\), \(u(x,0)=\phi(x)\), \(x\in [0,1]\), \(t\in [0,T]\), from the additional condition \(u(x,T)=g(x)\), \(x\in [0,1]\). Here, \(D_t^{\alpha}\) is the Caputo fractional derivative of order \(\alpha\in (0,1)\). The authors use a method based on a finite difference scheme in time and a local discontinuous Galerkin method in space. The stability and convergence of the proposed method is established. The authors also discuss numerical examples.
