When solving the initial value problem of the nonlinear system \(y''= f(y)\) with a Runge-Kutta-Nyström type method Newton type iterations are needed for the resulting linear system, whose solving is very costly. To reduce these costs the authors introduce an inner iteration which also requires the solution of a linear system. The advantage of this second system is that it can be decoupled in subsystems which can be solved in parallel so that the resulting method is highly efficient on parallel computer systems. A few examples illustrate the performance of the method.
