The authors present solutions to the wave equation \(u_{xx}(x,t) -u_{tt}(x,t)=V(x) u(x,t)\), for several special potential functions \(V(x)\). All solutions are based on a separation ansatz. For finding these solutions and determining some of their properties the authors have used the \textit{odesolve} function of MAPLE 7. One of the potentials chosen approximates the Zerilli potential which has relevance for the quasi-normal modes of a Schwarzschild black hole.
