Let \(D\) be a domain that is conformally equivalent to the annulus \(\big\{z\in\mathbb C \,|\, r_1<|z|<r_2\big\}\) with \(0<r_1<r_2<\infty\). The ``conformal module'' \(m(D)\) of \(D\) is defined by \(m(D):=\frac{1}{2\pi}\log(r_2/r_1)\). Let \(\sigma\in(0,1)\) and \(D_1^\sigma:=[-1,1]^2\setminus [-\sigma, \sigma]^2.\) The article investigates the question of how the module of this domain changes when it is stretched along the real axis. For \(H>0\) let \(f_H(x+iy)=Hx+iy\) and define \(D_H^\sigma=f^{}_H(D_1^\sigma)\). The main result states that \[ m(D_H^\sigma) \sim \frac{1-\sigma}{4\sigma H} \quad \quad \text{for}\quad \quad H\to\infty. \] Furthermore, \(m(D_H^\sigma)\) is computed explicitly for the case \(\sigma = 1/2.\)
