The article describes a spectral method for the computation of homoclinic orbits for ordinary differential equations. This method is based on Hermite-Fourier expansions. The presentation of the method includes classical properties of the Hermite polynomials, a convergence theorem, an evaluation result for nonlinear functionals of the homoclinic, and computational aspects. The applicability of the method is demonstrated numerically in the context of four examples: the Gray-Scott model for autocatalysis, Sandstede's example, the nucleation in models of phase-field type, and the extended Fisher-Kolmogorov equation.
