Using a projection operator, the author proposes a modification of a Newton-like method for finding fixed points of a not necessarily differentiable operator in a Banach space. This method has recently been studied by \textit{X. Chen} and \textit{T. Yamamoto} [Numer. Funct. Anal. Optimization 10, 37-48 (1989; Zbl 0645.65028)]. Relying on their arguments, the author provides sufficient conditions for convergence as well as error estimates. An example involving a non- differentiable nonlinear integral operator is also included.
